“I’m happy because I believe I am helping my community and, the joy of seeing women in my community have a safe delivery is more than enough.”
Bibiana Adda, 52, is a traditional birth attendant in the community of Gia, in the Upper East Region of Ghana. She participated in an Oxfam maternal health program, with our partner Parda, aimed at assisting pregnant women. Bibiana serves as the link between midwives and pregnant women in her community and encourages them to visit clinics for prenatal care.
The program has proven successful: the 6 communities involved in the program recorded 0 maternal deaths between 2014 and 2015!
