This is Mailén, 25-year-old. She lives in a rural area of Cuba and puts her heart and soul into creating an area of economic and personal development for the women in her cooperative.
“Sometimes I flagged along the way, but I soon got back on track because someone always gave me the encouragement and strength to continue.”
“The father of my children didn‘t accept the change to begin with but, little by little, when we had talked it through, everything started to fall into place and we established a partnership which we had never had before as a couple. Now we exchange ideas and he feels almost as though it‘s his project too because he knows how good it is for me.”
I‘m a completely different woman now, with new spirit, a different mentality, who has broken down a lot of stereotypes. I consider myself a leader because I‘ve helped many women to realize their dreams, because I can do whatever I set my mind to.”
